World Water Day
International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World wide, many organizations and communities use this day to demonstrate their support of these ideas. In Portland, Oregon the event Walk For Water is held to call attention to the long distances many women world wide must walk each day to obtain drinking water. Participants try to recreate the efforts of these women by carrying containers of water over a distance of several miles. The public is invited for free and many local organizations will participate in this event on Sunday, March 21 at the World Trade Center in Portland. Agua Pura Para El Pueblo will be there from 11 till 3 demonstrating simple methods families can use to make their water safe to drink. Agua Pura is partnering with another non-profit organization, Child Aid, who sponsor library and literacy programs in Latin America.
