Leyda at the clean water workshop.[/caption] Way back in 2013, Leyda Ruth Lopez participated in one of Agua Pura’s clean water workshops in her town of Llano Largo, Honduras – learning about how to protect herself and her family from water borne disease. Since then, Leyda has become an advocate for clean water and sanitation in her community, counseling her neighbors on how to purify their water. She still has the Water Purification Indicator (WAPI) she received during her first training, and uses it regularly to ensure her family’s water is safe to drink. Because of her work, and the need for clean water in the Llano Largo community, our partner Project Global Village asked Agua Pura to return to the Honduras and help them set up a facility to manufacture WAPIs for distribution. In June, Agua Pura flew down with supplies, and provided training to produce WAPIs locally. Leyda and her neighbors are producing 2000 WAPIs to distribute to all families with small children in the area – because small children are the most at risk of death from water borne illness.
